It is a truth universally acknowledged...

... that every girl in Britain is obsessed with the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice.  Such romance! Such agonising awkwardness! Such bonnets!

Whilst I was watching the last installment (being very pleased that I had enough self control not to watch them ALL at once...) I did some sketches of the characters.

Drawing from the television is more enjoyable than I thought it would be - moving figures allow you to examine the characters from all sides and through a variety of expressions.  Ultimately you get a better drawing as you are forced to capture the essence of the character rather than get hung up on the details.

Now I just need to find something else to get addicted to!

I'm trying a slightly more detailed colouring style in order to add more life and warmth to my work... if anyone has tips on good Photoshop brushes, I would be glad to hear them!

I did this little drawing a few days ago, but unfortunately haven't got round to colouring it yet and I have to go away! Boo :( I may colour it when I get back, what do you think? 

Thought I'd try a little cut-out experimentation a la Brittney Lee! 

I made this for my lovely and talented friend Laura as a birthday present :) Obviously it's still early days and I have a long way to go, but I think for a first try it turned out fairly well... what do you think?  

It was nice to have a break from Photoshop for a while and work on something more tangible - I think there'll be more to come!

Year of the Metal Rabbit

Before my next big project, I decided some exploration was required with regards to rendering techniques... I've gone back to the old-school with a bit of texture and even some Photoshop brushes (eek!!) I haven't quite made my mind up yet, it's very difficult for me to stray away from the the pancake-flat without feeling out of my depth, but you never know...

Oh yes, and apparently this year is indeed the Chinese year of the 'Metal Rabbit', when we are supposed to support our families and loved ones through deeds and not words - i.e. by keeping our mouths shut and our heads down! Good advice if I ever heard it :)

Ahoy-hoy!

Some of you may have missed me over recent weeks and been disappointed at my lamentable lack of posting. This was due to my laptop finally deciding to give up altogether and frying my hard-drive (hence deleting all recent work. Damn.) I took it to the Mac store in Covent Garden, expecting the worst, but came away jovial! Not only did the helpful chap replace my hard-drive with a new one twice the size, he gave me a brand new charger and a new casing as well! It was like a particularly gleeful episode of Animal Hospital. My 'little fella' had, indeed, made it.
Well, I'm back now and on track! Never fear! And I have some exciting things on the go which you no doubt can't wait to see...

On second thoughts, most of you probably didn't even notice I was gone.

Oh well, here is a piece I did a little while ago for Capture:Cure, a fundraising organisation who raise money for the fight against breast cancer. I entered this illustration into the 'Support' category - think it raised about £70 in the end!
