Drawiiiiiiinnngs...

Wow, well it looks like I've been a bit lax in keeping this blog up to date... :-S Well, here's a special Saturday treat - about 2 weeks worth of drawing at once!

The past week has been ridiculously busy (as you can see) so the challenge has suffered somewhat... however, I fully intend to make up the extra days so keep your eyes peeled!

Day 6

I haven't gone to bed yet, so technically it's still tuesday :-P

Days 3 and 4...

So, it seems I haven't got off to the best of starts! Some of you may have noticed I managed to miss yesterday too, but luckily have found the time this afternoon to do TWO whole drawings :D

3: Design your own super-hero costume :D I went for steampunk meets 60s chic...

4:  Write your name in 10 different fonts.  I like to call the last one 'Squiggly Ghost'.

November Challenge!!

Brendan Kearney and I have challenged each other throughout November to do a drawing a day to show to all you lovely people :) The aim of this is to keep our hand in and maybe come up with something useful now and again!

As we've both been in Berlin for the past few days, here are days 1 and 2:

1: 'Draw your parents from memory' - this was a lot harder than I'd anticipated! I maaaaay have cheated a little bit :-P (shhh don't tell Brendan)

2: 'Draw your earliest memory' - this is me and my great-grandad.  He would sit with me at my nan's house and help me do jigsaw puzzles whilst I drank the sugary milky bit at the bottom of his tea :) By the time it got to 100 pieces I was helping him :-P

I wonder what day 3 will bring?

Adventure Awaits...

Quick! Get away! Those men look like they're trying to steal that really important book that you haven't secured very well!

Trying something new, with much more detail, to become part of my new portfolio - exciting! :D This is the first of many (hopefully) Illustrations to feature this chap... he gets around...

I've only just been able to go back to these, after the disastrous Mac explosion of 2010 whereby I lost all but the linework for these beauties...

A series of designs for blusher boxes in an art deco style, 'Plum', 'Rose' and 'Natural'.  I'd like to think that my colouring has improved over the last two years - it would be interesting to see, but oh well!

Narcissism...

Part 2 in the series... the way I look on an average day! This time I think the colour is quite a lot better.  Working towards a slightly new style here, what do you think?

My Partner in Crime...

Starting to finish/ colour up some of the drawings I've done over the past 5 months - starting with my roommate and comrade Annalisa Hochstrasser.  Hopefully it won't be too long before we're on the Desperados again - good times! ;D

It's just a jump to the left...

Oooh, so it seems I haven't posted anything up in a while... here are the last of my Halloween-based doodlings! (Not including the bucket-load of facepainting I did over the weekend - great fun :D)

Obviously, the part of this design I enjoyed most was the Rocky Horror Picture Show portraits - I was thinking of making a retro t-shirt design out them, what do you think?

And here's the poster for the kid's event - not quite as epic as the one I did for the Amble Inn, but still pretty fun I think... gotta love a good dark purple/ glowing green combo! It was harder than I thought to think of sweets that are both recognisable and easy to draw - almost forgot about the marshmallow fangs! :O But got them in there in the end :)

Anyway, hope everyone had a lovely weekend and enjoys the actual day today! Is it just me, or does it feel like it's been Halloween for about 3 weeks?? Oooh and if you want to see an example of my facepainting from Saturday, take a looky here:

And So They Set Off...

Inspired by 80s family films and fueled by various John Williams soundtracks, I produced this! Probably one of the most rewarding illustrations I've done :D It fills me with childlike glee... Unfortunately I don't think the colours show up too brightly on the web :-/

Fright Night!

2nd installment of the Halloween Poster series :D I'm really looking forward to this one, as I shall be taking part in the 'Thriller' flash mob. Woohoo!

But He's ....H-h-headless!

'The Hare and Hounds Halloween Beer Festival' (featuring the Headless Horseman) - the first of many Halloween poster commissions I have lined up over the next few days, so watch this space!

Who can complain about being busy when drawing spooky things is so much fun?

Sketchies!

Come and meet my new friend! She's basically a Hispanic version of me, with actual curves... cursed boy figure of mine... I was just doodling away and she sort of popped out! I think she was getting bored of sitting in my head. Any suggestions for a name will be very welcome :D

Achilles and Ajax

As the title suggests, Achilles and Ajax sitting down to a nice refreshing Frappuccino whilst discussing their new business venture. Or looking at Youtube videos, it's your choice really...

A play on the traditional image of Achilles and Ajax playing chess under the walls of Troy.

If volcanic ash or car bombs weren't going to stop us, you could bet BA strikes would! Yep, we were supposed to be jetting off to New York this week, but it looks like trip 13 just wasn't meant to be... Instead, for your optical delights (and to maintain my sanity), here are some pictures what I did.

Number One: Odysseus tied to the mast, being tempted by three sirens - green tea, pomegranate and tangerine frappuccinos...

'Beverage of the Gods'

So, I wanted to draw some greek gods and godesses but unsure of how I could shoe-horn it into a project... My clever friend suggested I use these characters to advertise for Starbucks - point of display posters, coffee packaging, the Starbucks card etc. So below is a little tryout of the idea. Yes, I know she only has one earring and yes, I know her right arm looks a little bit weird.

Hermes with takeaway cups to come! Possibly...

Actually, I think I prefer the original lineart.

Well, hello.

It's a shame that Boots own products don't have lovely boxes like Too Faced and Benefit. I love boxes.

For my first trick, I will be creating some speculative make-up packaging for Boots '17' range. The colour schemes are 'Metallic Toffee', 'Mermaid's Tale' and 'Purple Heart' (my personal favourite, of course). As you can see, the sleeves can be removed to reveal some lovely little cut-outs so that one may view the sumptuous product hidden inside...

This was a bit of a photoshop fumble which luckily didn't end too badly. I have yet to master the wonders of Illustrator which will hopefully result in lovely clean lines instead of slightly botched hand drawn ones.
