Drawiiiiiiinnngs...

Wow, well it looks like I've been a bit lax in keeping this blog up to date... :-S Well, here's a special Saturday treat - about 2 weeks worth of drawing at once!

The past week has been ridiculously busy (as you can see) so the challenge has suffered somewhat... however, I fully intend to make up the extra days so keep your eyes peeled!

Challenges 8, 9 and 10

10: 'Take these drawings and reproduce them without line.'  This was quite tricky as it's a true departure from my usual style, but I think they turned out rather well - particularly the top one.  This kind of study might help with my colouring in the future.

9: 'Do observational drawings of people on the train'.  I was supposed to do four, but somehow only managed 2 :-P The last sketch is of my friend Dan (shhhhhh...)

8: 'Design the label for an invented ale' - this design was inspired by our visit to the Aquarium in Berlin :) Very tempted to develop this into linework, ensuring I give the jellyfish a jaunty expression... :D

Wednesday's challenge - I may have got a bit carried away...

Day 6

I haven't gone to bed yet, so technically it's still tuesday :-P

Day 5

5: Scenery challenge - drawing of a forest from the perspective of a mouse :) I got a little bit carried away in the detail, I think it might benefit from a revisit and colour soon...

Days 3 and 4...

So, it seems I haven't got off to the best of starts! Some of you may have noticed I managed to miss yesterday too, but luckily have found the time this afternoon to do TWO whole drawings :D

3: Design your own super-hero costume :D I went for steampunk meets 60s chic...

4:  Write your name in 10 different fonts.  I like to call the last one 'Squiggly Ghost'.

November Challenge!!

Brendan Kearney and I have challenged each other throughout November to do a drawing a day to show to all you lovely people :) The aim of this is to keep our hand in and maybe come up with something useful now and again!

As we've both been in Berlin for the past few days, here are days 1 and 2:

1: 'Draw your parents from memory' - this was a lot harder than I'd anticipated! I maaaaay have cheated a little bit :-P (shhh don't tell Brendan)

2: 'Draw your earliest memory' - this is me and my great-grandad.  He would sit with me at my nan's house and help me do jigsaw puzzles whilst I drank the sugary milky bit at the bottom of his tea :) By the time it got to 100 pieces I was helping him :-P

I wonder what day 3 will bring?

Happy Halloween!

I'm off to Berlin today! :D

I did this little drawing a few days ago, but unfortunately haven't got round to colouring it yet and I have to go away! Boo :( I may colour it when I get back, what do you think?

New Jipsy logo!

New logo/ website header design for Jipsy - probably needs a few tweaks, but I just had to get it up! Swirls, boats and feathers are my favourite things to draw so this was pretty fun :)

A Little Bit of Fairy Dust...

I know how to spend my Saturday night! Filling a tiny bottle with glitter to make cute princess-y jewellery :) Finally my hoarding has come to good use! Next up, an Alice in Wonderland theme...

Perks of working in a school - free life drawing classes! Little bit rusty today, but looking forward to getting my skillz back.  Oh yes, skillz with a zee.

2 x 10 minute poses - cartridge paper and charcoal.

Thought I'd try a little cut-out experimentation a la Brittney Lee

I made this for my lovely and talented friend Laura as a birthday present :) Obviously it's still early days and I have a long way to go, but I think for a first try it turned out fairly well... what do you think?

It was nice to have a break from Photoshop for a while and work on something more tangible - I think there'll be more to come!

We're going on tour!

Little something I did whilst getting excited about the up and coming Jipsy tour, in which I am miscellaneous instrumentalist/ artworker :D

Here is a little sneak preview of the piece I am currently working on - not long now before it's revealed! Coral reefs make me happy :)

Adventure Awaits...

Quick! Get away! Those men look like they're trying to steal that really important book that you haven't secured very well!

Trying something new, with much more detail, to become part of my new portfolio - exciting! :D This is the first of many (hopefully) Illustrations to feature this chap... he gets around...

Location: Indian Jungle

So recently I've forced myself to practice background work.  To my great surprise, it's not actually as boring as I'd presumed! At points I was even quite enjoying myself...

Here is my first true attempt at an imagined background - an indian rainforest for an illustration I've been working on for quite some time but never finished.

Because it needed a background in it.

Setting the scene...

I've been doing some background studies so that I can create interesting and believable environments for my characters.  Sometimes I forget how therapeutic it is to just sit and draw from observation... I may do some light/ colour tests soon too - exciting new frontiers!

Just a little something you should go to if you're free...

I'll be playing with Jipsy and I am also one half of The Hart Sisters! Fingers crossed that the weather holds out.

I've only just been able to go back to these, after the disastrous Mac explosion of 2010 whereby I lost all but the linework for these beauties...

A series of designs for blusher boxes in an art deco style, 'Plum', 'Rose' and 'Natural'.  I'd like to think that my colouring has improved over the last two years - it would be interesting to see, but oh well!

Come Tennessee Me...

Finally finished something that I started A LONG time ago... as in maybe a year :-S My portrait of The Secret Sisters (if you haven't heard of them, take a tea break and go have a listen!) Finally got the inspiration to finish it - think I might send it to them as a nice little present, what do you think?

The flowers around the border are all wildwood flowers from Alabama which bloom in the spring.  So it's topical.  Boo-ya.

Narcissism...

Part 2 in the series... the way I look on an average day! This time I think the colour is quite a lot better.  Working towards a slightly new style here, what do you think?
